Basketball Report – August 2009
Our Basketball players were out of school for three days last week, contesting both NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Junior and Intermediate Finals, as well as the Diocesan Basketball Competition.

The CCC Finals were held at Terrigal on Monday- Tuesday 24-25th August.
This carnival comprises the top 10 teams in the state after qualifying through the Regional tournaments held in Term 2.

Our Junior and intermediate teams have been training every Friday morning before school for the past two terms, practicing new offensive plays and fine tuning their skills. Many of the girls also train and play regularly with their Illawarra Representative teams outside of school. All of them also play in the local Beaton Park Junior competitions on various afternoons.

The Junior team (Year 7-8) began well with a win over St Joseph’s, Lochinvar, before falling to Mt St Benedict and John Paul College, Coffs Harbour. In their last game they had a comfortable win over Trinity College, Goulburn. The girls played very well and should be congratulated on their tenacity and positive attitude on the court. Unfortunately they didn’t make the semi finals, but this experience has shown our girls what standard is required if they are to be competitive next year.

Players: Georgia Ohrdorf, Erin Cranney, Olivia Child, Amy Shalala, Samantha Everett, Leah Connell, Sophie McGovern, Lucy Formosa, Hayley Scapin and Maddeline Cook (Injured and unable to play).

The Intermediate team were placed in a very strong pool at the carnival and unfortunately failed to win any of their three games. This is not to say that the girls weren’t competitive. They played very well and showed passages of play that were very strong.

Players: Vivien Mullan, Tatum Child, Tazmin Lancaster, Bronte Lancaster, Meg Connell, Dominique Tobin, Kayla Steele, Eilish Ward, Sally Dwyer, Rachael Harris and Jessica Tomassini.

Thanks to the very supportive parents who accompanied the teams, providing transport, bench duty, snacks and assistance during the three days away. It is wonderful to have so much help and the girls appreciate your attendance.

Diocesan Carnivals cancelled
The Diocesan Netball and Hockey Carnivals were postponed then cancelled this week due to inclement weather.
