St Mary’s P&F Family Care Project

The Family Care Project is an initiative of the St Mary’s P&F.

St Mary’s P&F invites you to consider volunteering to be part of our team of parents and friends who can provide practical help and support to families in need in the College community. There may be a sudden illness, an accident or crisis that impacts on the family and places them under stress. Not all families have extended family or neighbourhood networks to call on. By being able to provide families with a meal or two in times of stress can be a great blessing.

In early 2008 the P&F set up a roster of those who can help. We now have within the College community a way of providing practical, confidential support in such situations. It is great to have a team of committed volunteers available when needed to cook meals and deliver them to the College to be stored frozen until required.

We work with Sister Rita who is our contact with the College and families. Sister Rita now has a freezer and can store about a dozen meals. She says that it is a great help having this practical support in place for when it is needed.

We have only called on each volunteer once each in the last 12 months to provide a meal. 

As Sister Rita recently wrote:
Sincere thanks to the P & F parents who have generously responded with pastoral care meals.  Those already delivered to the College have been prepared with much care and it is a privilege to be able to take them to families in the name of the P&F.

So far this year they have assisted families at times of major surgery, in times of loss and grief, in times of sickness and in times of crisis. I can assure you your meals have been deeply appreciated. May God bless you as you generously continue to show love and support to the families of our College.  I reflect on Jesus’ words, “When you do it for any of my people, you do it for me”.
