Learning Projects

In 2008 ten subject coordinators accepted the challeng to learn more about learning at St Mary Star of the Sea College. They developed a field of inquiry and set about listening carefully to student voices and measuring their own assumptions about what it means to learn well.

The projects looked in the direction of the school motto "I am born for higher things" as the College leaders lived out the value of a love of learning.

The Learning Project was facilitated by the foresight and encouragement of the College's Board of Directors.

As a result of these projects, and further projects undertaken in 2009, we can now say that action research and practitioner inquiry are part of what we do as teachers at St Mary's.

Our research has shifted the self-concept of oue teachers and made audible the hopes and concerns of our students, emancipating them from the traditional silence about learning that has characterised so much of education.
