The NSW Minister for Education has decided to simplify the HSC Minimum Standard requirements by no longer linking the standards to the HSC. This change means that Year 9 NAPLAN test results will no longer be linked to the minimum numeracy and literacy standards required for the HSC. Parents, schools and teachers have sought this change since its introduction and we are delighted to see this change of practice. Schools have a constant focus on reading, writing and numeracy and we recognise that these skills are foundational to success in schools. However, linking NAPLAN results and the awarding of the HSC based on these results was a huge cause of concern for schools
