For my Major Textiles Project, I designed and constructed a fashionable apron that reflects the cultural style of the rockabilly era of the 1960’s. This dress turned apron was designed to reflect the domestic role of the housewife while also enhancing the style, using contrasting fabric, to embody the vibrant life of the decade. The product features an underlying tulle layered skirt, a pointed flat collar, apron ties, self-covered buttons and a functional pocket. I used various colours and stitches of embroidery as a design technique for the garment that highlights the tea cup pattern of the fabric.
