My Major Textiles Project is a two-piece top and skirt that is made of 90% recycled and repurposed materials. The work was inspired by ‘60s mod art and design, recycled textural knits, Mexican bordado embroidery and mermaidia. The asymmetric top and midi skirt consist of a voile lining, embroidered mesh underlay and a patchwork irregular textural knit overlay. The mesh, voile and knits are all reclaimed from op shops and my own collection. The overlay was created by deconstructing second-hand jumpers and re-knitting them into irregular stitch length panels.
